líbingan, hukay: I think especially if you like dark noevls, you'd enjoy The Picture of Dorian Gray, by Oscar Wilde. It's not exactly a romance, though there are some romantic subplots- but the basis of this story is the deterioration of one's soul. It's absolutely lovely. As for dark romances, Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre is a good one. Lots of Gothic undertones in that. Also, its prequel, Wide Sargasso Sea, by Jean Rhys is about a woman driven insane by her love for a man who doesn't love her back.
